BP LOWERS CONTAINMENT DOME AT GULF OIL SPILL SITE BP officials have lowered a giant containment dome 5,000 feet beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, in an attempt to stem the flow of oil leaking from the company’s sunken oil rig. (CNN)

IRISH AIRPORTS CAUTIOUSLY REOPEN AS VOLCANIC ASH CLOUD LINGERS Irish aviation authorities began to reopen the country’s western airports Friday, but warned that the massive volcanic ash cloud still lingers in the Atlantic. After hovering below 20,000 feet, the cloud now appears to be rising back above 35,000 feet, posing potential aviation obstacles for transatlantic flights once again. (AP)
